One week ago two-time MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and five-time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan took part in the Race of Champions – an all-star car racing event – in Bangkok.
Of the two motorcycle champions, Doohan fared the best, beating Jorge Lorenzo in their qualifier. Doohan, however, lost out to seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher in the quarterfinals. Two-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel was also eliminated in the quarterfinals by fellow Formula one driver and eventual overall winner Romain Grosjean. In addition to taking part in the races, Lorenzo also took to the streets on a Yamaha YZF-R1 to lead a procession of Thai Yamaha riders. 'It's been fantastic experience to be here in Thailand again,' Lorenzo said in a Yamaha press release.
'The people are so friendly and warm; it is always a pleasure to be here. I have really enjoyed the Race of Champions; the drivers are so talented and it's a real challenge to try to keep up with them. I would like to come back next time and maybe bring some motorcycles for them to try.'
