Khao Yai National Park Want Bikers to Stop Noise Polution

Motorcycle NewsMotorcycle enthusiasts will sit down with senior Khao Yai National Park officials tomorrow to discuss ways to prevent loud engines from disturbing wild animals. Animals that frequent the park - part of a World Heritage site - are reportedly upset by loud vehicles.

In recent years, tourists have had dangerous encounters with elephants at Khao Yai. Early this year, an elephant attacked a car with children inside and many similar incidents have been reported.

Last Sunday, a motorcyclist found himself surrounded by large elephants in the national park, and needed help. Given that the park is popular with motorcyclists, authorities decided to invite representatives of biker groups for a discussion before the peak season kicks off next month.

"We will need the cooperation of motorcycle riders," Kanchit Srinoppavan, chief of Khao Yai National Park, said.

The 2016 Triumph Bonneville - 60-Years History

Motorcycle NewsThe 2016 Triumph Bonneville is about to be launched, but the model name goes back almost 60 years. The first Triumph Bonneville went on sale in late 1958, as a modified version of the Triumph 650 Thunderbird. The name was a reference to Johnny Allen's 214mph run on a Triumph Thunderbird-powered streamliner at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The Meriden factory carried on making Bonnevilles right up to the end. When the Triumph name was resurrected by John Bloor at Hinckley in the late '80s they initially shied away from anything too retro, but in 2001 the new Triumph Bonneville arrived and has been a global hit ever since.

The old Triumph Bonneville evolved from a relatively sporty four-speed 650 to a five-speed 750 that couldn't hold a candle to the Japanese opposition. The Hinckley Bonneville evolved from a 790 with carburetors to an 865 with fuel injection. Throughout, it's been a naked air-cooled twin with simple styling.

The 2016 Honda CBR500R Upgraded Sportsbike

Motorcycle NewsHonda is teasing online with the information that their 2016 Honda CBR500R will receive a comprehensive range of upgrades, that surely sounds promising.

The 2013 Honda CBR500R was designed to maximize 47 horsepower fun factor for beginners and more novice riders while at the same time being both attractive and affordable. Its top speed is limited to around 160 km/h – more than enough for Thai road use – but there's fun to be had in getting up to speed, and the Honda CBR500R's handling exceeds expectations. It's an engaging, fun, and satisfying motorcycle.

The upgrades for the 2016 Honda CBR500R include a complete new look based on a design theme of 'Aggressive Speed Shape', whatever that means. Sharp and edgy character lines flow from its new front face – featuring steeply-angled duel LED headlamps 'that have that trademark sporting-Honda look' through to the up-swept tail equipped with LED lighting.

The KTM Parallel-Twin 500 and 800

Motorcycle NewsThere's been talk of a mid-range twin-cylinder KTM to sit beneath the firm's big V-twin models for nearly a decade now but the all-new parallel twin seen in very polished-looking prototypes still comes as something of a surprise.

Not long after the first appearance of the KTM RC8 V-twin engine, KTM boss Stefan Pierer openly spoke of a smaller, 500cc V-twin that was under consideration. That project never made it, but the idea lived on and in early 2014 Stefan Pierer revealed that the firm was working on 500cc and 800cc parallel twins to be made jointly with KTM's Indian partner – and part-owner – Bajaj, just as KTM's current 200 and 390 singles are.

The prototypes appear to be housing one of those new parallel twin engines. First impressions are that the engine is large enough to be the 800cc model, but how visually different the 500cc version will be isn't clear at the moment – it's possible that the smaller engine will simply be a sleeved-down version of the larger one.

The Gogoro Smartscooter a Smart Idea?

Motorcycle NewsThe Gogoro is an electric scooter that looks unlike anything else currently on the market. That's one of its main selling points. Instead of following a “me too” design, the Gogoro is strikingly minimalistic in appearance and was designed to be an uncompromising city-dwelling urban commuter.

The Gogoro's appearance isn't the only thing that sets it apart. The Gogoro is unlike other electric scooters or bikes in another major way: You can't plug it in to charge it. The scooter relies on a network of battery swap stations strategically located throughout a city to quickly swap a nearly-depleted battery for a fresh one. The system is currently being tested in Taipei, Taiwan, and requires subscribing to a monthly subscription plan.

The Gogoro is an electric scooter that was designed specifically for riding around town. With a top speed of only 95 kilometers per hour, you aren't going to get to your destination very quickly. And with a range of just over 100 kilometers, you aren't going to be able to go very far, either. That's not what the Gogoro is all about. It's 8.3 horsepower motor is just enough to get you where you need to go safely, efficiently and economically. The Gogoro is about bringing affordable and reliable transportation to the masses.
