Double Win For KRT In Thailand

Motorcycle RacingJonathan Rea (KRT) scored two emphatic race wins in the first ever WSBK races at the Chang International Circuit and in doing so left the new venue with a ten point championship lead. Tom Sykes (KRT) scored his first podium of the year with third place in race one and is now third in the championship rankings.

The first 20-lap race of the day belonged to Rea from green light to chequered flag, as the Superpole winner became race one winner after setting an unbeatable race pace in the 1’34s for almost the whole race duration.

Leon Haslam was second in the opener but Sykes mixed attack with defence as he chased hard to catch a slowing Haslam in the final laps, while also keeping eventual fourth placed rider Jordi Torres behind him to the end. This was Tom’s first podium of 2015, as he adapts to the new technical regulations for the 2015 WSB class.

In race two Rea repeated his perfect display from race one and in doing so scored his first double in Kawasaki colours. He also has the new lap record of 1’33.817 to his credit.

Suzuki Set for Thai WSB

Motorcycle RacingVoltcom Crescent Suzuki is looking forward to the inaugural World Superbike race at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand this weekend as the Championship travels to its second long-haul event of the 2015 season.

After a difficult race day in Australia, Alex Lowes is energised by the new location and looking to build on the potential shown in practice at the opening round. The Buriram track’s more conventional stop-start design will see the team reverting to pre-season test settings rather than those needed for the unique and flowing nature of Phillip Island and Lowes is determined to use this knowledge to continue his challenge on the Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Rehabilitated from his testing injury Down Under, Randy de Puniet is excited by the prospect of racing his Suzuki Superbike on neutral territory. The Chang circuit’s introduction will allow the Championship rookie a clean slate against his competitors while he continues his development within the Crescent team.

Yamaha MotoGP Begins Final Preseason Test in Qatar

Motorcycle RacingThe Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team took to the Losail International Circuit today for the final official preseason three-day test of 2015. Riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi continued to work on perfecting the set-up of their Yamaha YZR-M1s before the first race to be held at the same track in two weeks time.

The first day of testing started off slowly, with most of the teams opting to wait out the afternoon until the temperatures cooled, so conditions were closer to those of the traditional night race of Losail.

Jorge Lorenzo had a challenging start to the test, with a lack of grip on the slippery track slowing him down. Having waited until after 6pm local time before heading out, he rode a 1’57.351s lap and moved up to seventh place in the provisional session standings. He improved his times throughout the session and finished the day in sixth place on the timing sheets with a best time of 1’55.828s, +0.563s off the front.

Yamaha Successfully Wraps Up First Pre-Season Test in Sepang

Motorcycle RacingMovistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo ended the third and final day of MotoGP testing in Sepang on a positive note, finishing fourth and fifth in today’s session times.

Rossi clearly enjoyed today’s perfect weather conditions and was able to successfully complete his testing schedule. The progress he made in terms of the setup and pinpointing the direction of the development for his YZR-M1 showed when he shattered his own record at the Sepang International Circuit with a 1m 59.401s lap, moving him up to third on the leader board. The Doctor used the remaining time of the session to test some more parts for the bike and did a race simulation, before finishing the day in fourth place.

Teammate Lorenzo also made strides today. Continuing his good rhythm of yesterday, he was quick right from the start of today’s eight-hour session. Despite the crowdedness of having 27 riders on the track at the same time, he was able to focus on his pace and position himself as one of the key protagonists. As with his teammate, it only took him about half an hour into the session to beat his fastest ever lap at the Malaysian track when he posted a time of 1’59.624s. The Spaniard also concluded his testing schedule with a race simulation at the hottest time of the day and ended fifth in the standings.

Strong Start for Yamaha at First Day of Pre-Season Testing

Motorcycle RacingAfter more than two months of waiting, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo make a strong start at the first of a three-day pre-season Official IRTA test at Sepang, finishing second and third in today’s session times.

What started as a slightly cool morning for Malaysian standards turned into a scorching hot and sunny afternoon with plenty of action. Clearly eager to get going back aboard his YZR-M1, Rossi came prepared with a special Sepang Test helmet and showed that this year he’ll once again be one of the top protagonists. As the pace of the field started to pick up, he battled teammate Jorge Lorenzo, and rivals Andrea Dovizioso, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa for the top billing until, with almost three hours into the session, he cruised to the top the leader board. Clocking an impressive 2’00.380s lap, he is already less than 0.9 of second off last year’s fastest pre-season test time of 1’59.533s.

Like his teammate, Lorenzo was riding similar YZR-M1 machines to the prototypes they tested at Valencia at the end of the 2014 season and was also right on the pace. After familiarising himself with the bike again, the Spaniard steadily booked progress and made it a provisional Yamaha 1-2 when he posted a 2’00.521s, just +0.141s off Rossi.

Casey Stoner Still Testing for Honda Racing Company

Motorcycle RacingHonda and Casey Stoner has a successful partnership that saw the Australian rider win a title for the Japanese manufacturer in 2011. After Casey Stoner retired at the end of the 2012 season, the rider hasn't really had too much saddle time. That changed a little last year with Casey Stoner carrying out private tests for the Honda team, the most recent of which was held at Motegi last October.

Honda have now declared that this partnership will continue in the 2015 season, with Casey Stoner testing for the team at Sepang too.

2015 Ducati Desmosedici GP15 - Lots of Pressure

Motorcycle RacingCould 2015 be Ducati's final roll of the dice in MotoGP? The company that's endured relentless failure since Casey Stoner walked out half a decade ago has an all-new MotoGP bike ready for the coming season.

The Ducati Desmosedici GP15 will make its debut during preseason tests in Malaysia this month. If the Desmosedici GP15 fails, Ducati owners Audi might decide to pull the plug. The Desmosedici GP15 follows miserable failures at the hands of a number of different riders and engineers. But last year the motorcycle did improve thanks to the arrival of Aprillia RSV4 Gigi Dall'Igna.

But there was one thing Dall'Igna couldn't fix last season. 'Our big problem is understeer, so we need different geometry and we can't do that with the existing engine,' he said. 'The new Ducati GP engine will be smaller because for a chassis designer it's really important to have the engine as small as possible.' Dall'Igna was told he could do whatever he wanted to make Ducati win again, even if that meant parting from the 90-degree vee configuration – the company's trademark since the 70s.
