2017 BMW F700GS and F800GS Updated

The BMW F700GS and F800GS are being revised for 2017, gaining ride-by-wire throttle control, a new exhaust to help them meet the latest exhaust emissions regulations, new paintwork, new instruments and – on the 800GS – the option of Enduro and Enduro Pro riding modes on top of the standard Rain and Road settings. Carburetor Cleaning, Rebuild or Repair

Reliably delivering the right amount of fuel and air to our motorcycles’ engines goes right back to first principles. Old, worn carburetors cause much aggravation to many motorcycle owners. Ultrasonic cleaners have been a major boon to those happy to spanner their own motorcycles.

It’s also meant that a good amount of people are offering ultrasonic cleaning ‘services’ which vary wildly in their quality. Some, we hear, do little more than chuck the carburetor in whole without bothering to take it apart. Ultrasonic cleaners are not the universal panacea they’re perceived to be. It takes a little more than dumping carburetors in the bath and hoping for the best. They have to be properly stripped and inspected.

There’s no point cleaning carburetors with worn-out parts, and stripped-down carburetors will clean much better.

2017 Benelli 150cc Sportsbike

Benelli wants a piece of the pie in the 150cc sportsbike market, leaked via patent applications, a new 150cc single-cylinder sportsbike that, according to the stickers on its nose and tail, will be called the TXV or Dragon 150.

Currently under development at Benelli with the code name BJ150T-30, the motorcycle appears to use a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. What little of the engine that can be seen in the pictures doesn’t seem to match anything in Benelli product range.

The pictured prototype is clearly still a hand-made one-off. While some parts, like the wheels, come from existing models in the company’s motorcycle model range, others are new. The swingarm and frame look somewhat bodged, with ugly welds visible under the black paint. And several components, like the mirrors, are missing from the motorcycle.

Self-Riding Yamaha Motorcycle in 10-Years

Yamaha plans to have an automated self-riding motorcycle available within decade. The Japanese motorcycle company has already run tests with their Motobot, a robot riding a special motorcycle with outrigger wheels which they claim will beat Valentino Rossi’s lap times on several race tracks around the world later this year.

Most car companies are already testing self-drive cars and believe they will have them available for the market in the next few years. However, Yamaha chief executive Hiroyuki Yanagi has told the press it would take at least a decade before autonomous technology was available on a commercial basis for motorcycles.

‘Our current target is how to assist the rider,’ Mr. Hiroyuki Yanagi said. ‘The rider can focus more on safety if the machine handling becomes autonomous and artificial intelligence can be used for course selection,’ he said.

Valentino Rossi 20-Years Grand Prix Anniversary

Valentino Rossi 20-years on the Grand-Prix grid. On 18 August 1996, a skinny Italian teenager, a fast but crash-prone rookie at the time, recorded his first Grand Prix victory. Valentino Rossi won the Czech 125 GP on an Aprilia by 0.245 seconds, toughing it out against vastly experienced Spaniard Jorge Martinez.

For he record, Alex Criville downed Honda team mate Mick Doohan by two thousands of a second that day and swashbuckling Max Biaggi won the 250cc race by five seconds.

Barry Sheene had been singing Valentino Rossi’s praises all season. He’d raced against Valentino Rossi’s father Graziano Rossi in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Rossi Junior would soon show some of the Barry Sheene flair drawing a general audience to racing, as well as the dash of his hero Kevin Schwantz.

The Triumph Street Twin Getting a Bit Small

I’ve been riding the Triumph Street Twin for almost a month now, and a couple things are beginning to stand out. Aside from the fun I have buzzing around town on the 900cc twin, the overall size of the motorcycle is starting to feel cramped.

This is a bit ironic since Triumph specifically designed the Street Twin for smaller riders, with 1.65 meter I’m an average size Thai girl, making the seat a very approachable 750mm. In my many years of riding I’ve actually gotten used to larger motorcycles. The Triumph Street Twin, in contrast, has begun to feel a bit small.

Motorcycle Jeans or Textile Trousers

Many riders opt for regular denim jeans trousers when riding a motorcycle, but for more efficient impact and abrasion resistance, proper riding trousers or jeans are a much better option.

Good-quality motorcycle riding trousers have been specifically designed not only to be protective, but also to offer weather resistance, ventilation and a fit much better suited for riding a motorcycle or a scooter.

Materials in motorcycle riding trousers often feature strong fibers, such as Kevlar, either as a lining, patches or woven into the fabric. This makes the garment more abrasion-resistant – important if you fall off and slide on the road. You also often find double or triple stitching in the seams to make the product stronger.

MotoGP - Ducati Takes 1 and 2 at Austrian Grand Prix

The Ducati Team put in an outstanding performance at the Austrian Grand Prix, round 10 of the MotoGP World Championship, held at Zeltweg’s Red Bull Ring.

Andrea Iannone took the chequered flag to notch up his first-ever MotoGP victory, ahead of team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, who finished runner-up nine-tenths of a second behind, in his 250th grand prix race.

The two Ducati riders dominated the 28-lap race, holding off attacks from Rossi and Lorenzo in the early stages: Iannone moved into the lead on lap 2 and was then passed by Dovizioso on the tenth lap. Dovi kept the lead until lap 20, but next time around was passed by Iannone who held onto first place until the flag.

The Benelli Tornado 302R - New Full Faired Sportbike

The Benelli Tornado 302R is a gorgeous looking sportsbike, and the first new fully faired motorcycle in 10-years. The design is flawless. The fit-and-finish levels are also decent although the basic instrument console could have been a bit fancier… Apart from that there is hardly anything in terms of design that we can complain about, everything is just in the right place.

While most parts of the Benelli Tornado 302R are new, the 300cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine is borrow from the popular TNT 300S, Benelli’s capable small street-fighter. However, for the Tornado 302R, Benelli have retuned the 300cc parallel-twin engine, it will make 36 horsepower at 12,000rpm, with 27.4Nm of torque at 9,000rpm.

A smooth six-speed gearbox transfers the power to the rear wheel via a traditional chain final drive. The gear ratio have been kept short so the engine revs to the limit pretty quickly, asking you to shift up.
