A friend who lives in the Northeast wanted to buy a 2014 Kawasaki Vulcan 900, he did some test rides on the Vulcan 900 and is now confused. With only one motorbike available the choice is easy to make, but if Yamaha will launch a similar bike things change.

Anybody have more information regarding the new Yamaha XVS950?

The Yamaha Bolt-R XVS950 is indeed a good competitor for the Kawasaki Vulcan 900, it will seriously depend on the sales price of the XVS950 V-Star if it will take market away from Kawasaki.

We expect that the new Yamaha 950 Bolt will be launched at the 6th Bangkok Motorbike Festival at the end of the year, but it could also be at the 35th Bangkok International Motorshow 2014

Excellent news!

Now the price guessing game starts.

Let's hope Yamaha are not too greedy and offer it at a truly competitive price.

Yes price is important, and I hope that Yamaha Thailand is wise enough to price the Yamaha XVS950 below the Kawasaki Vulcan 900.

The Kawasaki Vulcan 900 has liquid-cooling and some other details that make it, at least on paper, look a little bit better.

That photograph is of the Bolt. The V-Star looks nothing like it, it's look is that of a traditional cruiser.

The motorcycle model that Yamaha Thailand is going to release is a new model, and the full model name is the XVS950CU. In Thailand they will sell a green and gray colored version, and as we indicated in our article we not 100% sure how the model looks exactly as it's a new (2014) model.

The motorcycle which Yamaha Thailand is going to introduce could be the Yamaha 2014 Bolt, the Yamaha people involved with this project do not use that name, so its hard to tell. They only talk about the XVS950CU.

Be aware that the black version will not be available in Thailand.

I've attached a picture of the 2014 950 V-Star. I do hope Yamaha are going to sell the 950 Bolt bobber and not the V-Star cruiser. The Bolt looks like a very rideable bike for Thailand with a decent riding position and very much in the mould of the Harley Davidson Iron 883. I think the Bolt would sell quite well if the price is competitive with the Kawasaki Vulcan.

We know for sure that the Yamaha XVS950CU (the model Yamaha Thailand is going to launch) has two rear shocks as suspension, not the single-shock setup as the XVS950A.

We have a sort-of confirmation that the Yamaha XVS950CU which will be launched in Thailand is in fact the 2014 Yamaha 950 Bolt.

We want to thank Max for pointing out that the picture in the article and the name of the motorcycle did not match.

Very long, very heavy, very low and a very wide tank.
6,995 quid here.
Looks good in white.
Huge list of accessories from Yamaha.

From another source at Yamaha Asia, the new Yamaha XVS950CU is closely related to the 2014 Yamaha Bolt but they're not the same.

The 2014 Yamaha 950 Bolt is the XVS950CE, while the model which comes to Thailand is the XVS950CU.

Guess it's like they write on those Thai T-shirts “Same Same – but slightly different”

The wheels/rims for the Yamaha Bolt XVS950CU are manufactured by a company called Taiheiyo, they mainly do production for OEM and I'm not sure if they have any retail consumer products at all.

We made the parts catalog for the 2014 Yamaha Bolt available for download. The Yamaha Bolt parts catalog is in English and Thai language. You can use this parts catalog for the Yamaha Bolt-R XVS950CU (as released in Thailand) and the XVS950CEC.
