Alstare Suzuki Begins 2008 Preparation

Motorcycle RacingTeam Alstare Suzuki riders Fonsi Nieto and Yukio Kagayama were back in action today testing their GSX-R1000s at Qatar - just seven weeks after the World Superbike season finished.

Although conditions were far from ideal this morning - when strong winds gusted across the track bringing sand and dirt from the nearby construction sites - the afternoon was better and both riders began to try some new material towards the end of the day.

Third team rider Max Neukirchner was absent from the test as a "gentleman's agreement" between the top teams means that only two riders per team are allowed to take part.

Motorcycle RacingRossi completes first day of testing with Bridgestone as Lorenzo's third Yamaha test gets underway in Jerez

Valentino Rossi, back in action for the first time since breaking his hand in Valencia, tested his Yamaha M1 on Bridgestone tyres for the first time today at the Spanish circuit of Jerez. The three-day test is the final test of 2007 and Rossi was joined in the garage by his new 2008 team-mate, Jorge Lorenzo, as well as the majority of the MotoGP paddock.

Rossi, his team and his engineers used today as a chance to get to know the Bridgestone technicians, whom they will be working with next season, and to understand the initial adjustments they need to make to the bike to suit the new tyres. Rossi's comments were positive and, having started testing at midday on a sunny but cold day in Jerez, he completed 49 laps. Despite still suffering from some pain in his hand, the Italian's best time of 1'40.514 was good enough for third and was just 0.293 seconds off Casey Stoner, who topped the time sheets.

MotoGP test day 2, Lorenzo makes steady progress in Sepang

Motorcycle RacingThe Fiat Yamaha Team completed an intense second day of testing in Malaysia with 2008 rider Jorge Lorezo today, despite a wet track first thing delaying the start of action until after midday. Heavy rain overnight and an overcast sky throughout the morning meant the Sepang track took a long time to dry out but, once the sun finally shone through the clouds, the temperature quickly rose into the low 30s, the asphalt dried and work got underway.

Lorenzo continued to work on general set-up with his new team, concentrating specifically on improving his braking and also completing a few laps on the new 2008 prototype M1. He improved on his time from yesterday, completing 48 laps and setting the 10th fastest lap of the day in a time of 2'04.021, with the quickest lap of the day set by John Hopkins in a time of 2'02.200. Rain interrupts testing for Fiat Yamaha Team in Sepang, Malaysia

Motorcycle RacingHeavy rain in Sepang drastically limited track time for the Fiat Yamaha Team today, as they began three days of testing in Malaysia alongside several other MotoGP teams. With Valentino Rossi still at home recuperating from a broken hand, it is just Jorge Lorenzo taking part in the team's testing program this week, the 20-year old Spaniard riding the M1 for the second time since the end of the season as he prepares to officially join the team in January.

After rain early in the morning it took some time for the track to dry out and Lorenzo did not get started until just after 11am. The MotoGP rookie completed 26 laps as he continued to develop his understanding of his new bike and tires and was looking forward to continuing his work in the afternoon, but another heavy rainstorm after lunch meant the track did not dry out sufficiently again and the team abandoned testing for the day. Lorenzo posted the 9th fastest time of the day with a lap of 2'04.433, with the unofficial time sheets topped by Randy de Puniet, in a time of 2'03.033.
