Can anybody tell which is better the Sym GTS 300i EVO or the new Honda Forza 300 scooter?

Both the Honda Forza 300 and the Sym GTS 300i EVO are two of the better 300cc class scooters.

Technically the Honda and the Sym scooter are not so far appart – the Honda has a bit bigger engine and the Sym has ceramic plated cylinder walls (which greatly reduce piston-cylinder friction). Both scoots are equipped with a very modern fuel injection system, and both have all the modern stuff you can expect from a high class scooter.

The Sym GTS 300i EVO was the first to be introduced in Thailand, and therefore some people maybe believe that the Sym GTS 300i EVO is still the same old model introduced in 2011. But the 2013 GTS 300i EVO model has been modernist and now also includes ABS.

The price difference between the Honda Forza 300 and the Sym GTS 300i EVO is about 15,000 THB I think, this can be for some people enough reason to look at the alternative.

The current 'un-confirmed' prices for both scooters is;

Honda Forza 300........................165,500 THB
Sym GTS 300i EVO.....................150,000 THB

Hi, my local Honda dealer is selling Honda Forza for 159000 plus on road charges. I have seen Sym GTS for as low as 138500 at some SYM agents, so worth phoning around.

If one starts thinking about serviceability and resale factors, I think Honda would come out aboue

Today i was at Mityon Pattaya. The Forza 300 is now available. The price, given to me was 159,000 Baht.

I also asked for the Sym 300 and the sales clerk told me 152,000 Baht, but no ABS. And she told me rather derogative,
that the bike is from Taiwan. It seems, they are not really interested, to sell the Sym.

The old Sym GTS 300i EVO is no match for the 2013 Honda Forza 300 scooter, but with the new 2013 Sym GTS 300i EVO the situation can change.

Also the Thai Sym distributor can also start importing the Sym GTS 250i EVO, which for 2013 is equipped with a 249cc engine and therefore would be able to sell for much lower price, without losing much performance, considering that the Honda Forza 300 is only a 276cc and the current Sym GTS 300i EVO is a 263cc scooter.

Also the 2013 Honda Forza 300 weighs 190kg, while the 2013 Sym GTS 250i EVO weighs about 173kg. While both produce around the same amount of (22 to 24 horses) horsepower...

I see the Sym 250 becoming more popular if it can overcome the "not Honda" stigma. Also SYM have 400!

I'm 50% Thai and that part of me despairs at my fellow Thai sometimes, especially for the blind faith in all things Honda. The sales girl can know nothing of Taiwan products as SYM used to make the Honda Cub for Honda and built hundreds of thousands over the years. Now they build cars for Hyundai as well. The only difference I see between the Forza and the SYM is resale value better in favour of the Honda because of the brand name.

Engine technical the Sym GTS 300i EVO has the leading edge over the Honda Forza 300i. Sym uses ceramic lining in its cylinder which reduces the friction a lot, and we all know friction is energy lost, Honda compensate the power lose with a bit bigger cylinder capacity....

Still the Sym GTS 300i EVO has more horsepower....

Sym GTS 300i EVO ….......................... 29 horsepower.
Honda Forza 300i …............................ 24 horsepower

It's possible that the Honda produce less power, as the 24 horsepower is based on information from Honda (manufacturers often claim higher performance than actual 3th party testers find.) The 29 horsepower of the Sym GTS 300i EVO is based on tests done by the popular English motorcycle magazine Visordown.

Sym 300i seems to only have 17hp according to this website. http://www.sym-thailand.co.th/scooter/gts-300i-evo/

I guess the specifications are somewhat messed up, officially the old version Sym GTS 300i EVO made 17 kW power (what is about 22 horsepower). With the latest version of the Sym GTS 300i EVO the power has increased a bit and according to Visor Down magazine (who had the 2013 Sym GTS 300i EVO on a dyno-bench) the horsepower has increased to 29 horsepower.

Basic information would suggest the Forza power unit is the same as the SH300 with a little less Hp but the same torque.

The NSS designation links it to the Reflex (NSS250) but as it is newer should we lean towards SH300?

Im not sure, but isn't this bike the one I saw on the news that a old foreigner guy was so pissed off that he tried to brake the bike on the public? first he tried to throw in inside a construction hole, then hammered it and then sold for 10 baht. because the bike gave only headaches to him.
it was on thai news channel.
