A riding pal of mine went through two red lights recently, as his ABS system would not let him stop in time. He started braking in time (I was behind him) but the system would let the brakes off, preventing him from stopping. This was on a Kawa 650 ERs. I was riding my Versys, possibly anticipated the light sequence better, and my son on his Honda CBR 600 stopped ok. My pal has since sold the Kawa, (great engine and handling) and bought a Ducati. if I could disable the ABS system on my bike I would.

Yep I also agree that it's a good thing. I cannot say that I am an expert but I am starting to learn more about bikes. My dad told me that he will buy a big bike for my 25th birthday so I couldn't get more excited. Well, first, I must do well in schoo. I am planning to learn more about big bikes and all after I finished all my school stuff.

ABS brakes are not needed for sportsbikes. Ask any experienced biker he will tell you the same thing.
ABS just lets bad riders get away bad riding!
Non ABS brakes will stop your bike faster than ABS. I've never had them and I wouldnt buy a bike which has ABS.
ABS units increase weight (upto 9kg on some bikes) and they give you longer stopping distances.

I've never locked up a front wheel on a bike, as I've always had my brakes set up properly.
With a good set up and decent sports tyres (which you should have on a sportsbike) it's impossible to lock up the front wheel. Good riders can stop quickly in the wet and on cornering without ABS.

If you really think you need ABS maybe look for a less powerful bike or spend money on riding lessons.

Keep it pure (no need for things like traction control, ABS, anti wheelie systems) on sportsbikes.
If you still feel that you need all of these things, give up motorcycling and buy a car instead.

I believe the ABS units on the Versys can easily be taken off.
Talk to any good big bike mechanic.
