GNCC Series Round 13 - Knight and Williamson take championships

Motorcycle RacingKnight needed to finish 12th or higher to clench the top spot for the series. He had a good start and worked his way to the front of the pack and eventually took the lead. From there Knight never looked back.
"It's great to have finally wrapped up the championship.

It's been one hell of a strange season but despite it taking a little longer than I hoped I've acheived what I set out to do, which of course was to win the GNCC championship. I have to say a huge thanks to all of the KTM team, but especially to Timo who was my mechanic for the last four races" said Knight.

Season finale beckons Fiat Yamaha Team to Valencia

Motorcycle RacingA challenging first season of 800cc Grand Prix racing comes to an end this weekend as the eighteenth and final round of the 2007 MotoGP World Championship takes place at Valencia in Spain. The traditional season curtain call at the Ricardo Tormo circuit marks the conclusion of a difficult campaign for the Fiat Yamaha Team, although Valentino Rossi does have the chance to salvage a great deal of pride by sealing the runner-up spot with a single point in Sunday's 30-lap race.

Fifteenth place or above would leave Rossi out of reach of Dani Pedrosa, who has to win the race to maintain any chance of usurping the Italian for that coveted second spot in the final standings. The Valencian Grand Prix is the 100th race since the new era of four-stroke MotoGP was introduced in 2002 and it marks a special landmark for Rossi, who is one of only three riders to have appeared in every single one - taking 49 victories along the way.

Awesome Stoner Scores his Tenth Win for Ducati

Motorcycle RacingDucati Marlboro Team rider Casey Stoner scorched to his tenth victory of the year in faultless style at Sepang today, leading every one of the 21 laps and setting the new record on lap 15. His team-mate Loris Capirossi came home in 11th place.

Hard Fought Fourth for de Puniet at Sepang

Motorcycle RacingRandy de Puniet gave his team something to celebrate today when he rode to a spectacular fourth position in the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, Anthony West made an error on the starting grid that cost him a potential MotoGP career-best result.

Frenchman de Puniet shot off from fourth on the line as the race began, showing brilliant progress in an area which has vexed him in the past, and clinched third place from Marco Melandri in turn one. A leading group of Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa, de Puniet and Melandri quickly formed, with the Kawasaki number 14 pilot maintaining third until the Italian overtook him on lap five. But he never let up throughout the race and, whilst riding his 800cc Ninja ZX-RR to the maximum, held his position, eventually landing himself 13 championship points and taking 11th position in the current standings.

A delighted de Puniet came home to an uproarious reception from his crew after a weekend which has seen him relentlessly topping the timesheets and consistently displaying both talent and courage on the 4.55km circuit. Bike, rider and Bridgestones shone for the entire, 21-lap race.

Third and fifth rows for Fiat Yamaha in Sepang

Motorcycle RacingFiat Yamaha Team riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards are faced with a difficult challenge for tomorrow's Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang after struggling during qualifying this afternoon. The team worked hard throughout the day to rectify the lack of grip from which both riders have been suffering, but they were unable to find a competitive package and the pair now face a daunting task for tomorrow's 21-lap race when they start from ninth and thirteenth positions.

The rain stayed away today and during this morning's session, with temperatures in the low 30s and conditions of the newly improved track becoming increasingly more consistent as more rubber was laid down, times improved all round. Rossi and Edwards both made some positive steps forward and finished the session in seventh and thirteenth, confident of more improvements this afternoon. However this was not to be and a lack of grip on race tyres this afternoon kept the pair down in the lower orders, before they made their qualifying challenges in the last 15 minutes.

Aoyama and Kallio 1-2 on pole for Malaysian 250 Grand Prix

Motorcycle RacingHiroshi Aoyama came out of nowhere in the closing seconds of the second 250cc qualifying practice for the Malaysian 250 cc Grand prix to statch the pole from Red Bull KTM team-mate Mika Kallio by a mere three hundredths of a second.

Aoyama said he had constantly run into traffic when attempting a fast lap but eventually he saw his opportunity. "It was only at the very end and after sorting through different tyres and fine-tuning the set-up in different areas that I finally found a clear track. I managed to take pole position with this one and only fast and flawless lap." It was Aoyama's first 250 cc pole position of the 2007 season.

Aoyama said he was particularly pleased to complete the lap time on the race tyre, a big confidence factor for Sunday's race. "Of course there are still parts that can be further improved on the bike, especially the feeling on the front end, which is very important for the race
