Steve Ramon Wins Weston Beach Race
The RM-Z450-mounted Belgian headed home New Zealand's Josh Coppins by three minutes after the race was prematurely ended after 2 hours 20 minutes due to safety considerations.
Third place went to British Four Stroke champion Brad Anderson who made it on the podium for the third consecutive year.
With the Weston weather honoring the anniversary weekend with sunshine and blue skies, a huge crowd of over 100,000 fans watched the Quads, Sidecars and Solos battle it out on the North Somerset coastline. On Saturday it was Paul Winrow who reclaimed his title of Quadmaster of Weston when he took victory by nearly four minutes over Suzuki-mounted Jeremie Warnia. Winrow had built up a healthy lead in the early stages before having to pit to change a wheel allowing the hard-charging French rider to close up and move into first position, but then he too suffered a slight mechanical problem and had to pit, letting Winrow through to victory.
Former World Motocross Champion Stefan Everts and GNCC Enduro Champion David Knight were notable non starters - Everts contracted to a TV Show and Knight set to race at the final round of the series in America.
Said Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL Activities for the event: It was very unfortunate that both riders could not make it but I am sure that the spectators enjoyed the performances that Steve Ramon and Josh Coppins gave. We apologise that two star riders did not appear but we will make every attempt to get Stefan and David to the race in 2008 along with other top GP riders to keep this event at the level we have achieved."
