In India, where the 500cc Harley-Davidson Street will be manufactured, the talk is that the 500cc Harley will be a entry-level motorcycle for riders who want something more after a motorcycle like a Royal Enfield bike.

The Royal Enfield's are in India not considered expensive, therefore if the Harley-Davidson 500 is the next step for Royal Enfield riders it cannot be that high in price.

Sorry mate but what is NOT A HIGH PRICE? depends on you are a worker in a factory or a millionaire I guess Wink

Is it sure that the Harley will be manufactured in India? Its Import then, so the normal price plus around 300% in Thailand where ALL farangs are rich and can afford to pay everything the government wants us to pay.... I would understand this kind of Politics IF they are able to build something like a Harley.....but they dont even produce anything in Thailand what is not a copy...and a bad one too.

Sorry to say so but they wanted me to charge 180.000.-Baht for my Yamaha XT 500 which was in bad condition and not worth more then 500.-EURO (20.000.-Baht) when I arrived with it...

If the government makes civil prices we will not see so many motorbikes driving around with faked framenumbers, faked books and faked numbers Smile

It's 100% sure that they going to produce the Harley-Davidson Street 500cc in India.

Officially the import duty for a motorcycle from India is 60%, the excise tax is 30%, plus 10% for interior tax and 7% VAT. Companies with an government import permit will pay much less excise tax and probably import duty.

The high prices for imported motorcycles is not only for foreigners (farang's) Thai nationals also pay the same prices.

And not all imported motorcycles are expensive, the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom costs in the UK £7199 (which is about 359,000 THB ), the same model costs in Thailand 497,000 THB which is only 38.6% higher then in the UK.

I did a little bit research on the price.... Found a link to a page http://post.jagran.com/harley-davidson- ... 1378723019

I found out that a Indian Rupees RS Lakh means about 100.000 divided by around 45 make around 2200.-USD
So the price for the 500cc Harley is something between 3-4 Rs Lakh, means 7500 and 10.000 USD what I dont think is really cheap Smile

INR 4Lakhs = 400,000 / 50.54 = US$ 7914,51 which is 245,350 THB

Of course the price of the 500cc Harley-Davidson Street is purely speculation as the price is not yet announced... But if the retail price in India is correct the 4Lakh would be in Thailand around 690,000 THB (which is pretty cheap for a Harley-Davidson).

That's not decided, the official Harley-Davidson distributor for Thailand is thinking about one model at the moment. But like everything that can change in Thailand as quickly as a traffic light...

I have the feeling that we will get the Harley-Davidson Street 500 in Thailand, as it's the cheapest and 500cc is for most people in Thailand more than enough... It's possible that other people have other ideas about that...

Thank you.

Which begs the question;

"How do they decide what we'll get?
Do they actually survey the riding public?
Do they monitor websites such as this one?
Do they just make an educated guess?"

Not only Harley but other manufactures as well.

They probably think that the Harley-Davidson Street 750 is to close to the Harley-Davidson Iron 883. The problem is that the Thai market for Harley-Davidson and other cruiser style motorcycles is not that big, so they have to make decisions.

Logic would be 500, 883, 1200, etc engine size available. But don't worry I'm often wrong if I try to predict Thai logic thinking... It's also possible that they would replace the Iron 883 for the Street 750... or do something else completely unpredictable...

Anyway here also the first official picture of the new Harley-Davidson Street 500
