I just found a dealer in Thailand who sales Sym scooters, back home I love my sisters Sym GTS Evo 250 it is fast, low of fuel consumption and costs less compared to any other 250cc scooter or motorcycle.

Will Sym Thailand introduce the Sym GTS Evo 250 also in Thailand, I looked today at the Vespa GTS 250 but + 300k Baht is to fare out of my budget.

The Sym GTS Evo 250 would indeed be a perfect scooter for Thailand, but there is a problem. In Thailand every imported motorcycle with a engine size smaller then 250cc benefits from lower taxes and duties. And the engine specifications of the Sym GTS Evo 250 is 250.6cc what is 0.7cc to much to benefit from special tax rules.

Also the cost to register the scooter will cost much more, to register anything smaller then 250cc costs 900 Baht, while a 250.6cc while likely cost 30,000 Baht.

What about the Sym GTS 300i Evo, I hear that Sym is going to sell it in Thailand?

That is good news as J Costa already has a unit for the GTS 300.

Does J Costa also have a unit for the Sym Joyride 200i Evo, as this model is also coming to Thailand and is a good amount cheaper.... As it's less than 250cc and will be imported under the ASEAN free-trade-agreement....

I logged on to the site for the sym 300 ,i was getting excited by the second,it looks very nice and you gave it a ok write up,then i got to the end saw the prices,hope the laws change one day here,be keeping my pcx

What erks me is all the 200, 300 BS The 200 is 175 and the 300 is 260. What happened to 200 and 300.? Even Vespa is 270-ish. and their 250 is 240. OK Keep them at 249 or 299 or something but...

If manufacturers are looking for the perfect combustion chamber, they sometimes produce weird engine displacements. I know what most people think if they look at the specs on paper of a 300i scooter what is actual a 272cc scooter. But the Sym GTS 300i Evo is pretty quick, it's surely quicker than the average European 250cc scooter...

The price tag for the Sym GTS 300i Evo is currently set at 178,000 THB, looking at the next big scooter official available in Thailand is the Yamaha T-Max for 555,000 THB and the smaller scooters like the Honda PCX 125i already cost well over 70,000 THB now-a-day.

OK if it's all about efficiency and economy and in doing so we have to get away from "traditional" fractions of a litre bikes, then why not call them 272 or 244 or 278...

A cynic would say an easy way to improve the economy of a "300" bike by 10% would be to make the engine 10% smaller but still call it 300..

Seems only scooters do this. Like Vespa 300 at 278cc why not Vespa 280? Vespa used to have an 160GT and an 180SS at 181cc

Kawasaki Ninja 250 is 249cc. Versys 650 is 649cc. T-Max 500 is 499cc. Honda Silverwing 400 is 398cc. OK SYM 250 is 250.6cc an oversight that one as it is bigger than the Asian 250 limit for taxation.

More likely 300 capacity scoots are an evolution of the smaller ones, say like the Vespa 300 and it isn't easy to actually make them bigger. So to make a new scoot say like SYM 400 at 399cc they would have to make a completely new engine which may not fit the smaller frame.

FlyingSquirrel i do agree ,i cant remember of hand Sym 300cc is really 260ish ,so really they should call it a 250 if they want to round dowm to the nearst 50cc,by the way not drinking beer at mo on a diet

ive checked out sites in England to compare prices and a couple of other places no mention of the sym 300 coming there.After the shock of seeing the price ,it is a motorbike i dont really know the sym,im willing to test drive,if it looks as good and drives ok ,yep im sorry i would buy,im only left with one bike at mo so im hanging on please keep site posted about scooters,

You cannot compare European (foreign) prices to “imported” motorcycles or scooters in Thailand, the Yamaha T-Max who is also an imported maxi-scooter cost in European countries also a lot more that sold in Thailand. (price in Thailand 555,000 TH.

The reason is the Thai import duty, nobody can escape it (if you want to be 100% legal), Thailand has high import duties on imported motorcycles/scooters over 250cc, welcome to Thailand.

With cars or bikes or for that matter most imported things you cannot compare Thai prices with other countries. Pointless anyway. Thailand will be more expensive as has been explained. You either buy it or you don't.
Like elsewhere most people avoid paying tax so when it comes to buying something you don't actually need the Thai government gets its tax when you purchase. No different really than higher VAT or luxury taxes elsewhere. Say on yachts. NB water craft in Thailand are essentially tax free so if you want a deal buy a boat.

I have also heard about Sym GTS Evo 250. It is a nice scooter. But its cost is much more and maintenance is not so good.
