BMW is contacting owners of every R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure built between November 2013 and June 2017, asking them to have their motorcycles checked by a dealer. The campaign related to a possible issue with the fork tubes, specifically the potential for a gap to emerge between the fixed tube and the top seal plugs.

It follows an online campaign started by GS owners, after a number of cases where a stanchion separated completely from the motorcycle.

BMW Motorrad has determined during ongoing field observations that the fixed fork tube of the specified models can suffer damage due to unusual incidents with momentary high stress without the user noticing, reads the official BMW statement. ‘Subsequently, critical driving conditions cannot be rules out.’

More information about the BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure recall can be found here, BMW Front Fork Recall for GS Models.

It's good news that BMW Motorrad take the front fork issues reported serious..

So, "Critical driving conditions" can occur ? That would be humorous except for the fact that people have DIED.

BMW sells junk these days. I wouldn't ride one if it was free. I see a lot of gullible fools buying BMW bikes, but people who know better ride other brands of bike. BMW is relying on the reputation it had decades ago, but the bikes BMW sells now are not deserving of the reputation BMWs of the past deserved.

BMW Motorrad said "It’s important to note that there are no known instances of this happening as a result of normal road use", if you have any information that suggest anything different please show use the information.

Nearly a year ago I wrote an article about the built quality of Japanese motorcycles getting less, but apparently it doesn’t only apply for Japanese motorcycles.

If interested in the article you can find it here The Quality of Japanese Motorcycles.
