The New Yamaha MT-125 - Small Master of Torque
As we now probably all know “MT” stands for Master of Torque, however the new 125cc motorcycle is based on the in India built 125cc, 15 horsepower Yamaha YZF-R125. The eager four-valve single-cylinder engine is unchanged from the in Europe hugely popular entry sportsbike, as is most of the rest of the motorcycle – frame, upside-down forks, rear shock, tire sizes, radial front brake and geometry are all the same to the Yamaha YZF-R125.
There are obvious changes for the new Yamaha MT-125, however. The fuel tank is shorter, the seat is 5mm lower, and your rump a couple of centimeters further forward. Tapered handlebars are 100mm higher and 35mm closer and the foot pegs are redesigned, all for more 'urban' riding position. New alloy wheels too. Bodywork echoes the bigger Yamaha Mts, ant the digital dash – inspired by smartphones, no less – has a bar tacho and shift light.
No availability yet, but expect it here for the third or last quarter of 2014. There's no price information yet either, but given the aggressive pricing of Yamaha currently we reckon it will make some serious impact on the market.
