The Yamaha FJR1300A - Time for a Service Stop

It's some time ago that we seen the Yamaha FJR1300A of our friend in the garage. But now with the FJR1300A finally back in our workshop, it was time to get the tools out and do a few jobs. The first thing was to change the oil and filter – the Yamaha FJR1300A had already covered 10,000km.

Dropping the engine oil is easy and is just a matter of undoing the sump plug – just make sure you have something for it to drain into. Also you get the best result when the engine is warm. Removing the old oil filter is also easy and only has one bolt holding it on. Once this is undone you can remove the cover and slide out the filter. A Bangkok dealer of K&N filters supplied us with a KN-148 replacement filter, the K&N oil filter contains a modern synthetic filter media, designed for ultimate flow with less pressure drop, yet engineered for outstanding filtration, and is probably the best you can get when it comes to filters. The oil we've used is high quality Yamalube fully synthetic – this should go a long way in protecting the engine from the abuse it's bound to suffer.
While our mechanics had the spanners out, they also fitted some crash protectors. This is really only a 20 minute job – all you have to do is remove the two front engine mount bolts then install the crash protector brackets and fit the replacement longer bolts that come with the protection kit.

The last job on the list this time was to fit a radiator protector for the liquid-cooling. Our friend had some problems in the past with little stones damaging the cooling-radiator. Installing the Radiator Guard was only a 10-minute job and was just a matter of removing the alloy side shields, sliding the new radiator guard grill in place then reinstalling the shields with the supplied bolts.
