What Everybody Should Know About Motorcycle Helmets

In Thailand, it's a legal requirement to wear a motorcycle helmet that meets Thai Industry Standard, Snell, ECE and DOT ratings are also referred to when describing some helmets, but to avoid any future police fines you should select a motorcycle helmet that is certificated by the Thai Industry Standard (TIS). The Thai government is working on ways to enforce the motorcycle helmet rules more tightly...

Helmet manufacturers have slightly different-shaped shells (some even offer a couple of different shell shapes), meaning some brands may fit and feel better than others, so make sure you not only try different sizes, but different brands of helmets to see which one suits your head the best.
The fit of a motorcycle helmet is crucial – it should be a snug fit: not too loose and not too tight overall, nor tight on one particular part of your head.

As a general rule, motorcycle helmets should be replaced every five years. In Thailand, we prefer to advice three years because of the intense UV-radiation from tropical sun light. More importantly, motorcycle helmets are only designed to take one major impact, so should be replaced after an accident.
