The Triumph Daytona 675 as Japanese Tourist Attraction


I had the Triumph Daytona 675 on track last week a first for my new motorcycle. I tell you what, riding a British motorcycle really does have its appeal.

Obviously it helps that the Triumph Daytona 675 is a severely competent sportsbike, and going for regular blasts is indescribably fun. But riding a British built motorcycle holds something in the hearts of a lot of people.

For many, including myself, it has taken the current crop of Triumphs to start turning heads over recent years. For a time, especially during the 90's and earlier, there wasn't much for us to get excited about. But that has all changed and people in their masses can't help but start to take notice.
I'd taken a break from an early Saturday ride and chilled for a while in khao Yai national park, an excellent motorcycle destination, the Triumph Daytona 675 gleefully clicking away on a cool breeze. I hadn't got my helmet off before the first person to come by stopped and chatted about the Triumph. Most I can remember was of his old British motorcycle back in the fifties and sixties.

But the most strange scenario was when a coach load of Japanese tourists arrived to the sights. They where seriously interested in my Triumph Daytona, the dormant camera's hanging from their necks were booted into life. At least twenty of them photographed the Triumph Daytona 675, then photographed me lying on the grass. Two women even came back and asked me if they could hold the motorcycle...
