The Suzuki Hayate 125, Scooter or Motorcycle

On the first look the Suzuki Hayate 125 doesn't look that special. Matter of fact it looks more like the scooter my girlfriend drives to the supermarket then a bike with some performance.

So what is the Suzuki Hayate 125? The Suzuki Hayate 125 is what I would consider the Suzuki answer to the so successful Honda Wave 125, as with the Honda Wave the Suzuki Hayate is a all round motorcycle that does everything as long you feed him gasoline.

The Suzuki Hayate 125, or UW125C as its factory designation, is an motorcycle powered by a 4-Stroke, single cylinder, forced air-cooled, SOHC, 2-valve 124.1cc engine, with a bore 53.5mm and 55.2mm stroke, producing a compression ratio of 9.6:1. The engine lubrication is by Suzuki own invented lubrication system, Suzuki Advanced Lubrication & Cooling System, which forces lubrication to the most remote parts of the engine. Making the Suzuki Hayate engine one of the most effective lubricated 125cc engines I ever seen.
Lubrication of engine parts is mostly overlooked now-a-days as people seem to care more how the motorcycle looks then how long it will give you the pleasure of driving it. The transmission of the Suzuki Hayate is by CVT/V-belt, providing a smooth ride with this step-less automatic belt transmission. The fuel tank hold 4.7liter fuel and is good for about 164 kilometer.

The Suzuki Hayate 125 suspension is basic telescopic, coil Spring, oil damped front suspension and conventional double-tube shocks, oil damped rear suspension. With front and back spoke wheels equipped with 220mm front disc brake and 190mm rear drum brake.

Our final conclusion is that the Suzuki Hayate 125 is a create motorcycle for somebody who looks for a Honda Wave but want a bit more. Our Suzuki Hayate 125 was a bit more expensive then the Honda Wave 125i (with PGM-FI fuel injection) and therefore we recommend the Honda Wave 125i. But if prices would change, we say go for the Suzuki Hayate 125, it is a real please to drive and never lets you down.

I am compelled to e-mail a comment in relation to a poor comparison made between the Honda Wave PGM-EFI and Suzukis Hayate 125.
The reveiw was obviously not carried out as a side by side comparison.

The Honda Wave PGM-EFI and Suzukis Hayate 125 are two different Scooters.
It should be strongly noted the wave requires you to change gears in a manual fashion and is really not in the same category as the Suzuki.

The Honda is the conerstone of Thai transport, super reliable and no frills.
EFI is the only advantage the Honda has, which every scooter will have soon enough due to looming emmision regulations. EFI is much cheaper to produce, fit and maintain than carby, but requires Reserch and Development which is costly.

The Hayate is definately more Upmaket, and has big advantages over the Wave.
1.CVT which is seemless Automatic and provides instant acceleration, enough easily to out accelerate the Wave to 60 kph and with no EFI
2. Ample Under seat storage space room for two stacked open helmets. (Wave has glove storage)
3.The seating is Heavily padded for comfortable two up travel.(Wave seating is poorly padded so very uncomfortable)
4.It has Alloy (Mag) wheel option for better Handleing/Ride caracteristics, less puncture prone, holds tyre pressure better, easy to clean.
