The BMW G310R - Mid 2016 in Thailand
German motorcycle specialist BMW Motorrad has unveiled the BMW G310R street legal motorcycle. The new BMW is the first motorcycle designed with TVS outside Bengaluru, India, to German BMW standards.The BMW G310R will sell in several markets including Thailand. BMW will bring the BMW G310R here, on its own, around mid 2016.
The BMW G310R will be sold in black and white, a metallic blue and premium, metallic white with blue and red paint shades. It's a compact streetbike, riding on 5-spoke wheels. The BMW G310R fascia is dominated by a minimalistic headlight fairing. The cleanly styled motorcycle's sleek body panels are uncluttered by excessive graphics. There's pronounced tank extensions, boldly emblazoned by a racy “R”, while the chunky 11-liter fuel tank bears the globally looked up to BMW badge.
The new BMW motorcycle comes with digital instruments, including a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, gear-engaged indicator, engine temperature, fuel-level and clock.
'Look ma, no side-panels' says the BMW G310R, on which you get the option of variable height seats. The tail faring is slim, and rear mudguard considerably outstretched. A hefty silencer is in place, with plenty of lightweight alloy seen. Expect top-notch quality and fit-finish, as experienced on all BMW motorcycles.
The BMW G310R engine is unique reclining its liquid-cooled cylinder back, head rotated 180 degrees, exchangining inlet and exhaust ports. This cleverly shifts gearbox mass closer to the front wheel, allowing a short wheelbase, with longer swingarm.The four-valve head houses dual overhead camshafts. Expect quick revving engine character from the short-stroke engine, where bore and stroke measure 80mm x 62mm. The 313cc fuel-injected BMW G310R revs to 10,500rpm, making 33.6 horsepower at 9,000rpm, lower than KTM's fierce, larger capacity 390 Duke. Expect refinement, helped by a counter-balancer within the engine. Peak torque is 2.9kgm, at 7,500rpm. BMW claims a over 145km/h top-speed, with 30km per liter fuel efficiency.
The BMW G310R comes with a six-speed gearbox. The cooling-system incorporates a generously proportioned radiator.
The BMW G310R weighs 158 kilograms, framed in tubular steel, with alloy swingarm at rear. Sturdy 41mm diameter upside-down telescopic suspension is in the front, with an adjustable rear monoshock. 17-inch wheels are standard, the rear tire being 150/60 section rubber.
The brakes are steel braided hose supported, a 300mm rotor equipped disc in the front, radial mounted with 4-piston calipers, and a 240mm disc at the rear. Twin channel ABS is standard.
The BMW G310R will make a worthy rival to KTM's brilliant Buke streetbikes, the BMW G310R delivering on the crucial count of more comfort, and possibly plusher ride quality as missed on the ultra-sporty, aggressive Dukes.
For the worldwide market share BMW lost time to KTM, but they still arrive in good time, with sensible positioning. BMW used to be Europe's highest selling two-wheeler player, till KTM took over, after setting joining hands with Indian manufacturer Bajaj.
