The BMW G310R Assembled at Rayong

We all know that the BMW Rayong manufacturing facility makes a whole bunch of cars, as well as currently eight BMW motorcycles, including the F800GS, F800R, F800GS, F800GT, S1000R, S1000RR, R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure.

As we also know, BMW has a cooperation agreement with Indian TVS. BMW developed the G310R and both TVS and BMW would create a line of motorcycles from it. TVS is basically the manufacturing partner, building the BMW G310R out of its Hosur, India plant under BMW’s quality supervision.

The BMW G310R has been in the public domain for months, and we have got to know it as well as possible without riding it. We know that the engine is a state-of-the-art liquid-cooled single-cylinder with dual overhead camshafts, the cylinder is backward-tilted and the intake is positioned at the front like we can see on MotoGP bikes. The power output is 25kW, or 34 horsepower, at 9,500rpm and a maximum torque of 28Nm at 7,500rpm.

With the use of clever design, engineering and modern materials BMW has been able to keep the weight of the BMW G310R pretty low at 158.5 kilograms, which is 6.5 kilograms less than the Honda CBR300R, or 15.5 kilograms less than the Kawasaki Ninja 300… The Kawasaki Ninja 300 produce around the same horsepower as the BMW G310R.

The whole design is the dynamic of the roadster design echoes of the BMW S1000R. The BMW G310R also comes with the latest electronic package and has an high-performance brake system and ABS as standard.

We currently know that BMW Motorrad will put the G310R on sale in India in the last quarter of this year.

This is very interesting because it opens the door for BMW to exploit the India-Thai free-trade-agreement to its advantage just like Ducati, Kawasaki and Triumph already do. While the Thai-India FTA doesn’t apply for complete motorcycles we are willing to bet that BMW Motorrad intends to use the Thai production facility in Rayong, Thailand to bolster its presents in Thailand and ASEAN in general.

Obviously, all of this isn’t going to happen on the first day the motorcycle is launched in India.
