The 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R

The 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R are the most powerful, hardest-accelerating, cleanest-running GSX-R’s ever built, Suzuki says. Both will produce 149kW at 13,200rpm and 118Nm at 10,800rpm – up on the current GSX-R1000’s 136kW at 11,500rpm and 117Nm at 10,000rpm.

The performance boost is thanks partly to the centrifugal variable valve timing system from the Suzuki MotoGP GSX-RR, and a higher compression ratio (13.2:1), Ride-by-wire throttle, a higher red-line and more than 600 new parts also helped.

Suzuki says they idea is to reclaim the sportsbike crown, with the ‘most powerful GSX engine yet.’

But, according to Suzuki, the motorcycles are also the most compact, most aerodynamic and the best-handling GSX-R1000s ever. The chassis on both versions, in fact, is 20mm narrower than its predecessor, while its engine is tilted to make the motorcycle 22mm shorter.

The Suzuki GSX-R1000R gets a high-spec Showa ‘Balance Free’ front forks and rear shock, plus an auto-blipping up and down quickshifter, launch control, LEDs, and ABS as standard. That brings its wet weight to 203 kilograms, 1 kilo heavier than the GSX-R1000 with ABS.

For the Suzuki GSX-R1000’s suspension, there is a Showa big-piston fork and Showa shock.

The Suzuki GSX-R1000 will also be available in some countries without ABS, bringing its wet weight down to 200 kilograms. For Thailand we expect that only the GSX-R1000 ABS will be available and if the non-ABS will be sold it would be by special order.
