The 2017 BMW G310GS a genuine BMW GS within the reach of everyone

Following the excellent reception of the BMW G310R worldwide in its role as BMW’s sub-500 dual purpose lightweight, the factory has officially announced the BMW G310GS, a full blown BMW GS in every sense of the word and easily recognized as a true GS when compared with any of the much larger BMW machines… and a neat looking motorcycle.

The BMW G310GS is a true GS with typical but updated styling and versatility unrivaled in this motorcycle market sector, compact, light and easy to handle at home around town in traffic or blasting across country in comfort benefiting from its obvious versatility, add to this straightforward and simple controls and other neat touches like an LCD instrument panel it provides a safe and enjoyable ride suiting both the novice or experienced ride alike.

Engine is the 313cc (80 x 62.1) liquid-cooled single-cylinder with 4-valves DOHC and electronic fuel injection. Already well proven the single-cylinder head is rotated by 180 degrees and tilted to the rear permitting a fresh air-fuel mixture to be drawn in at the front with the exhaust pipe at the rear of the cylinder head.

The BMW G310GS rolling chassis is similar to the BMW G310R and described as a ‘Bridge-type’ tubular steel space frame with a bolt on rear section combining torsional rigidity as well as being very robust. Front forks are conventional 41mm USD with more travel than the G310R and the single rear shock with pre-load is mounted directly on the aluminum swingarm, simple but efficient and reliable under any conditions that the BMW G310GS might encounter. Five spoke cast aluminum-alloy wheels are fitted with the 19” front wheel proving a real benefit.

True to form BMW have rider safety a priority and have installed a high-performance braking system with 2-channel ABS as standard ensuring rapid and safe braking from the 300 and 240mm disc brakes while in the event of encountering a ‘light terrain’ the ABS on BMW G310GS can be switched off at the touch of a button by its rider.

Already a variety of accessories are available in line with the larger BMW GS machines including power sockets, heated grips, obviously seat height options, center stands, essential luggage equipment and much more enabling new owners to personalize their new BMW G310GS from scratch if they wish.

The BMW G310GS will certainly find favor all over the world and even here in Thailand where BMW have ambitious plans where it expects to sell in serious volumes – truly a genuine BMW GS within the reach of everyone.
