The 2014 Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere
Most important, a new ES model has electronically adjustable suspension, similar to what Yamaha use for the FJR1300ES in that there are four preload settings, which are adjustable when the engine is running, and three damping adjustments (Soft, Standard, Hard). What's more, the Yamaha XT1200ZES has cruise control, which makes us think Yamaha heard the complains of owners.
Other changes are similarly welcome. These include an aluminum sidestand and new top triple clamp with remveable risers, which, together with a new handlebar, move the grips up and back 10mm to make it easier to ride in a standing position. Other changes include a bigger, reshaped windscreen, LED turn signals, and new multifunction gauges with a crossbar GPS mount.
Moreover, via altered exhaust ports, Yamaha has found 2 extra horsepower and some extra torque, all while improving low and midrange response.
Although we wish the ABS could be shut off for those occasional forays onto dirt, the 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z is still a substantive improvement on one of our favorite motorcycles. We're not sure if Yamaha Thailand will also include the Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200ZES in the line-up.
