The 2013 Ducati Hypermotard 821 - Completely Redesigned

The Ducati Hypermotard was first introduced back in 2007, and for 2013 the Italian company has introduced the Ducati Hypermotard 821, it has the same upright riding position as the other hypermotards which is even somewhat useable for regular riding.

The Ducati Hypermotard 821, fresh and shiny for 2013 is an all-new approach. Ducati doesn't use any of the parts from previous motorcycle for the Ducati Hypermotard 821.

The all-new 821 cc engine also adopts some features introduced by Ducati in the second generation 1198cc Testastretta 11º engine used in the 2013 Multistrada. Instead of the air-cooled two-valve desmodue engines used in previous Hypermotard models, the new Hypermotard 821 is for the first time powered by a liquid-cooled eight-valve engine – and the V-twin layout similar to the Panigale.
Also new for the Hypermotard is the use of full ride-by-wire throttle control. The pair of 52mm throttle bodies each have a single repositioned fuel injector which directs fuel spray to the rear of the intake valves in order to enhance atomization.

For the chassis, Ducati's trademark trellis frame made from 34mm steel tubing on the 2013 Hypermotard is completely new, same as the die-cast aluminum single-sided swingarm delivering a much longer 1500mm wheelbase than before.

The Ducati Hypermotard 821 also comes with the so-called Ducati Safety Pack, comprosiing latest generation three-stage Bosch ABS fitted as standard plus eight-level DTV (Ducati Traction Control) that works more smoothly by retarding the ignition rather than cutting fuel delivery.

The steering geometry is less radical with the new Ducati Hypermotard 821 non-adjustable 43mm KYB fork offering 170mm of wheel travel set at a more raked-out 25.5º head angle, with 104mm of trail. The rear Sachs shock is adjustable for spring preload and rebound damping only, and gives 150mm of heel travel via a progressive-rate link.
