Skully Closes Its Doors

San Francisco startup Skully, founded by brothers Marcus and Mitchell Weller, have closed in the wake of a lawsuit filed by a former assistant, Isabelle Faithhauer.

According to Faithhauer, the Weller brothers sed Skully corporate accounts for personal purchases, ranging from limo rides to Lamborghini rentals, and demanded that she conceal the true nature of the expenses.

Backed by a successful 2014 Indiegogo compaign that raised US$ 2.4 million, Skully promised fans a futuristic augmented reality motorcycle helmet. After missing targeted shipping dates, former HTC North America vice president Martin Fichter was hired to fill Marcus Weller’s role as CEO. Fichter promised fans their helmets by the end of the summer.

Shortly thereafter, Skully closed and announced plans to file for bankruptcy. Early backers, who pre-ordered helmets for US 1,400 a piece, are unlikely to see a refund.
