The KTM 990 Supermoto T - Touring Supermoto?
KTM inventing a whole new class of motorcycle – the 'Supermoto Tourer' – might seem a bit incongruous. But take a look at the motorcycle and it's not had to see where the Austrian firm is coming from. The standard KTM 990 SM is rated pretty highly worldwide for its 'entertainment and control', so give it a more comfortable seat, multi-functional dashboard and higher screen, some luggage even and how could you go wrong? The fact that KTM managed to sneak it all in under a claimed 200 kilograms further piques out interest.
Overall, it doesn't actually amount too much R&D from KTM. But, bizarrely, the KTM 990 SM was a pretty sorted sports tourer to start with: a better seat and a bit of wind deflection might be all it needed. The frame of the KTM 990 Supermoto T is largely unchanged, with a slightly modified subframe to account for two passengers and the luggage. One negative point about the KTM 990 Supermoto T could be the same 19 liter fuel tank: a couple of extra liters would've been a bonus.
The KTM 990 Supermoto T comes with the same characterful 999cc V-twin, fuel injected engine found in so many KTM models. So unless they've secretly made the fork bottoms from lead and front wheel from ultralight material, it's still certain to wheelie like an utter mentalist.
