Hi guys

I recently did a trip to Burma and rented the Honda XR 125L. It is so comfortable and for me a perfect middle ground between driving in the city and doing longer trips further afield. However, on return to Bangkok I was sad to find that Thailand does not sell it. The CRF 250 that Honda does sell is overkill for the city and out of my price range really. The other equivalent is the Kawasaki KLX range and I'd go for the 150. These are great bikes but not anywhere near as comfortable for longer trips like the XR is. So I have 2 questions really:

1. What are the possibilities of importing a Honda XR125 into Thailand? This really would be my first choice as I know it's the bike I want!

2. Does anyone have any suggestions for a similar bike that would suit me?

Thanks

Toby

Yes, you could import a Honda XR125L, but it's not something I would recommend – as you will need to invest a lot of time and money (probably cheaper to buy a CRF250L) for getting the motorcycle imported and road legal.

As alternative for the Honda XR125L you could look at the Lifan LF200GY-5 Cross 200, which is based on the Honda XR design. It has a 200cc engine so has a bit more power compared to the Honda XR125L and it cost only 46,000 THB and is fully road legal.

Lifan also has a supermotard style version of the LF200GY-5, which is an excellent for riding in city traffic, the price of the supermotard style version, which is called the Lifan X-Eplore 200, of the Lifan LF200GY-5 is similar to the eduro style motorcycle.

Good news is that the stroke is the same for all so somewhere here there is a 150 (144cc) conversion for the 125. 54mm to 58mm.

He Flying Squirrel,

I also had the idea that the Kawasaki KLX125 was equipped with fuel injection and the KLX150 (144cc) model came with a carburetor.
