The Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom Fuel Range

There's no excuse for running out of fuel on a Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom. The five-bar fuel gauge is a mere glance away and you get two warnings: the wee pump symbol winks when the load drops to just one bar, then this remaining bar flashes when the quantity reaches a dangerously low level.

But this morning I'm ignoring them. My odd 130km daily round trip sees me refueling every other day, at around 230km, when the second light blinks. It's more often than I'd expect with a cavernous 22 liter fuel tank, so I've strapped a jerry can to the rack so I can find out what the Suzuki V-Strom's range really is.
As normal the first warning comes at 215 kilometer, then the last bar starts flashing at 230 kilometer. I ignore it and keep going until the Suzuki eventually dies at 276 kilometer. That works out at 12.5 kilometer per liter fuel, which is the economy I usually average, and while it's not as far on a fuel tank as I'd like, due to the Suzuki DL1000 V-twin's thirst, at least I know I have that little extra range to play with.

Speaking of playing, there's a set of Pirelli Scorpion Sync tires being fitted. These are essentially Pirelli's Diable sports tire with a chunkier tread pattern. I'll also be taking the suspension advice given by everyone who has emailed me in an attempt to sharpen up the handling now the raining season is finished. Or not this morning it rained again....
