The GPX CR5 - 150cc Commuter Work Horse

The GPX CR5 is a modern looking 150cc motorcycle intended as a commuter motorcycle which gets you from A to B in a smooth and efficient manner. We have seen the GPX CR5 with hard luggage on some motor shows and we feel that you could use it as a touring bike.

Some people would maybe see a familiar look to the GPX CR5, that's probably because it's based on the Yamaha YBR design, with here and there some extra plastic. The engine is a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 150cc engine running through a five-speed gearbox. The engine provides about 12 horsepower at 7,500rpm with a good amount of torque.

Maybe it was the looks that drew me towards the GPX CR5 in first place with its small and compact set-up with upright handlebars and a comfortable seat that isn't too high (770mm) off the ground, which makes it a doddle to mount and dismount with ease.

Both in town and out on the open road, the GPX CR5 handled well; the suspension did feel a little soft and bouncy for my liking, but that said it is adjustable to suit individual needs and I could have stiffened it up a bit if I'd needed to. But as the motorcycle was only with us for a short while, I didn't bother. I'm also not a great fan of how gearbox worked, but, after some getting used too selection was smooth and efficient, giving no cause for complaint. Remaining on the subject of efficiency, both front and back brake are hydraulic disc brakes which carried out their tasks without any problems at all.

Ride information is provided by a mix of analog and digital instrumentation, which among other things, show your speed and what gear you're in.

It's mainly basic information, but just for commuting to and from work, that's all you really need to know. The GPX CR5 easily meets all the requirements needed for it to carry out its task as a commuter work-horse.

If you're on a budget, then at a price of around 56,000 THB, the GPX CR5 150 isn't a bad buy for what is basically a good, sound machine. It's certainly one to put on your shortlist.
