New Tyres for your motorcycle, but which we select

Remember the days when you wobbled round on crossplies, guessing how much grip you had? It ain't like that any more. Though engine power and slick handling are the most obvious advances in motorcycle technology, they wouldn't amount to a row of beans if tyres hadn't kept up.

And surely tyres kept up. With new launches from almost all the major tyre manufacturers in the past years we're now at the stage where even ordinary tyres provide amazing performance.

For Sport touring, which are basically tyres which warm-up fast, are durable and give a very neutral handling. This tyres will work on almost any road surface and can cope with hard use. Sport Touring tyres from the several manufacturers are the Avond Tyres Storm ST, Pirelli Diablo Strada, Continental Contiroad Attack, Michelin Pilot Road 2, Dunlop D220, Bridgestone BT021 and BT021 and the Metzeler Roadtec Z6.
Sport tyres are light and faster-steering than sport-touring; designed to work with more sophisticated suspension. Stable under braking and can cope with all Thai road conditions. A few Sport tyre examples are the Avon Tyres Viper Sport, Pirelli Diable, Continental Contisport Attack, Michelin Pilot Power, Dunlop Qualifier, Bridgestone BT014 and the Metzeler Sportec M-3.

If you think about Fast Road or also called Track Day tyres. Think this durability is sacrificed for big grip. This tyres have a light carcase, designed to suit hard riding, but have a poor tolerance of low temperatures, even in Thailand you need to be careful not to push the tyres when they are not on temperature. Most days, only a maniac could get them hot on a public road. Fast Road or Track Day tyres are the Avon Tyres Viper Supersport, Pirelli Diablo Corsa or Supercorsa Prostreet, Continental Contirace Attack, Michelin Pilot Power 2CT, Dunlop Qualifier RR, Bridgestone BT002 Racingstreet and Metzeler Racetec K3.

The pure Race tyres are technically road-legal, but designed to show off a manufacturer's ability. This tires are almost always associated race class. They have very light sidewalls and are quickly wasted on the open road. Pure race tyres are the Avon Tyres Viper Extreme, Pirelli Supercorsa Pro SC, Continental Contirace Attack Comp, Michelin Power Race, Dunlop GP Racer, Bridgestone BT002 Pro and the Metzeler Racetec.
