Motorcycles with Storage Space will Sell Better
Vietnamese motorcycle producers are rushing to re-design their bikes: it is expected that motorcycles with larger storage space will sell better in the time to come.As of December 15, 2007, motorcycle drivers in Vietnam all must wear helmets, and drivers need a space to keep their helmets, while the current motorcycles do not have storage space large enough. Customers now tend to purchase scooters instead of regular motorcycles partially because scooters all have large under the seat storage space.
Motorcycle producers say that they had polled customers and found that customers would purchase motorcycles with larger storage space for helmets among two models with the same function and price. The finding has prompted producers to design motorbikes with larger storage space.
Nguyen Anh Vinh, Deputy Head of the Research and Development Division under Hoa Lam Kymco, said that the company's motorcycle models now do not have storage space.
He said that it was no simple work to redesign a large storage space for regular motorcycles, but the company had asked the Taiwanese partner to assist with this. The company's first models of motorcycles with larger storage space for helmets will be launched on the market in a few months.
According to Honda (Vietnam), among its motorcycle models, only the Honda Super Dream does not have storage space, and the Honda Wave S has a small storage space, while all the products to be marketed in the the coming time will all be equipped with large storage space.
Dinh Quang Tuan, Marketing Director of Yamaha (Vietnam) , also said that it was a complicated job to design storage space for motorcycles, as this might change the motorcycles overall design. However, Yamaha still plans to look into the storage space issue.
Vietnamese domestic-owned motorcycle an accessories manufacturers also said that they would invest on designing storage space for their models. A staff official from Sufat said that early 2008 the first products with larger storage space would be launched onto the market.
