Not so long ago one of our readers asked us what about the Kawasaki KLR650, so being in Malaysia and talking to ultra friendly Malaysian Kawasaki sales people who apparently look much happier then the average Thai motorcycle sales person at Kawasaki Thailand...Asking about the Kawasaki KLR650 and why it is not available in Thailand but can buy in Malaysia. The sales girls first smiles and ask me you want to hear the real story, then, she not really wait for our answer and says the Kawasaki KLR650 is not made in Thailand. And Kawasaki Thailand is holding any products of neighboring countries of the Thai market.
So I ask, the Kawasaki KLR650 is made in Malaysia, at this moment a male sales supervisor has joined the conversation, and the girl answers it is surely not made in Thailand.We asked Kawasaki Thailand and had not reply, we asked Kawasaki HQ for reaction and nothing... Kawasaki Thai sales people seem too scare people away with, the words that the Kawasaki KLR650 doesn't meet Thai emission standards, but when we asked a Official if he could check for a Kawasaki KLR650 he confirmed that several where legally on the road in Thailand. With two of the latest of this Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycles qualifying for the Thai emission test.
We had a go with the Kawasaki KLR650, and having some experience with larger enduro machines, one of my girlfriends regular machines is a 650cc BMW, the Kawasaki KLR650 is bigger and something I would call more of an Adventure bike. The moment you mount the Kawasaki KLR650 you know, you feel this bike has a history and was developed by learning and failure. It is developed in the years into a perfect touring, adventure motorcycle... I join ranks with the several readers on Motorcycle Thailand that the Kawasaki KLR650 should be a motorcycle included to in the Thai Kawasaki line-up.
