2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro, XDiavel and Sixty2
Ducati has upped the aggression stakes on its Ducati Multistrada dual-sport motorcycle and Ducati Diavel power cruiser with the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro and jaw-dropping Ducati XDiavel models respectively. As anticipated, it has also expanded its recently launched Ducati Scrambler range, which now includes the 399cc variant, the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2.The Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro is the iconic Italian marque's most dirt-oriented model since the original Ducati Scrambler models of the '60s and '70s to take the fight to the popular big-bore adventure bike segment, dominated by the BMW R1200GS.
Power comes from the same 117kW/136Nm 1198cc Testastretta 90-degree V-twin with Ducati's variable valve timing system, although the motorcycle's semi-active 'Skyhook' suspension is bolstered by a double-sided swingarm and 200mm travel at each and (up 30mm).
The Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro features wire-spoke wheels (19 inch at the front and 17 inch at the rear respectively) and a whopping 30 liter fuel tank to match KTM's recently launched 1290 Super Adventure and the BMW R1200GS Adventure. The motorcycle has a claimed wet weight of 256 kilograms, 4 kilograms lighter than the less-powerful BMW.
Technological arsenal is extensive with cornering ABS, cornering lights, traction control, wheelie control and a hold control function (as seen in the BMW R1200RT tourer) to aid uphill starts.
A range of dedicated accessories will be available including an aluminum luggage set.
The Ducati XDiavel, meanwhile is the most extreme iteration of Ducati's power cruiser to date which even Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali described as 'a major departure for our brand'. By that Domenicali refers to the motorcycle's aggressive styling, including forward controls and belt final drive, with the latter two being company firsts.The Ducati XDiavel is powered by a 1262cc Testastretta V-twin with variable valve timing that produces 115kW (156 horsepower) at 9500rpm and 129Nm at 5000rpm, the Ducati XDiavel is low, long and solid, with a wheelbase of 1615mm and tipping the scales at almost 250 kilograms.
The Ducati XDiavel's considerable electronics package includes multiple levels of traction control and ABS (including cornering ABS), multiple riding modes, cruiser control and power launch control to get the best shot away from the red lights.
Another indication of Ducati's future direction is the release of the Ducati Sixty2 version of its Scrambler range. It features a slimline fuel tank, new graphics, three distinctive colors and is aimed at the 'pop' segment of the market characterized by its non-conformity.
