Why are new tires slippery? Is it because they are coated with a release agent so they will come out of the mold?

In reality, new tires have no issue coming out of the mold, and treating them with a slippery substance would be both irresponsible and downright stupid on the part of the manufacturers. Tires just need to be broken in with some care.

The first few heat cycles that a new tire experiences help to finalize the curing process; it’s during these 100 or so kilometers that the tire’s smooth surface also becomes scuffed, enabling it to provide proper grip levels.

So get the tires warm and worn in a little before putting a knee down, and forget about cleaning off something that’s not there...
