A 51-year-old Dutch tourist was killed when he lost control of his rented motorcycle and crashed in Pattaya on Saturday.

The man was found lying in a pool of blood on the road along Pattaya beach in front of Hard Rock Cafe in Bang Lamung district, said Pol Maj Kittipong Srichamnan, a duty officer at the Pattaya police station, who was alerted around 11am on Saturday.

The tourist had sustained head injuries and numerous bruises to his body. The rented motorcycle was found nearby. He was rushed to Pattaya Memorial Hospital but died shortly afterward.

A police investigation showed that the tourist had been riding the motorcycle along the road at high speed. He lost control of the bike and it skidded along the pavement for more than 20 metres. The force of the impact knocked him off the road.

Police were preparing to contact his relatives.

Was he wearing a helmet? Probably he did not as he suffered head injury. It’s so bad that tourists can rent any motorcycle in Thailand, they maybe have a 250cc at home and try to show off on holiday with a 1000cc or more superbike.
