Rule 1- Car/Truck drivers often fail to see bikes.

Wear fluoro high-viz jacket. Ride with headlight on at all times.
Ensure rear lights, brakes and indicators are high visibility.

Rule 2. - Overtaking

DON'T do it where there is a RH turn ahead. Car/truck may make sudden turn; see Rule 1.
Do it quickly, on straight stretch- NO BENDS. Have patience. Don't try if bike is low powered.

Rule 3. Wet weather

Reduce speed severely. White lines, manhole covers, oil/grease, many hazards!
Visibility will be affected. Keep vizor fog-free. Stop if rain torrential, better wet than DEAD.

Rule 3. -The usual checks

Tyres- condition, pressures
Brakes- pad wear, fluid level, leaks.
Mechanical- loose nuts, visible damage, fuel lines, etc.

Rule 4. -Other hazards

Animals! Peripheral vision, keep alert in countryside.
Pedestrians! Heavy traffic, distracted, wander into road. Horn!
Potholes, broken surfaces.

Rule 5. -The road is NOT a racetrack
