The Kawasaki Z1000 - Hooligans Return

The new Kawasaki Z1000 is certainly looking to get back to the sharp hooligan ways of its forefather – which is a relief.

The new Kawasaki Z1000, which according to Kawasaki Thailand will be released October 2011, features a newly designed liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve 1043cc in-line four, offering greater power output (136 horsepower claimed), and stronger torque than that of the previous Z1000 (110Nm @ 7,800rpm claimed).

Tragically, Kawasaki are persisting with the quad-style mufflers, which is a shame, because they don't look any better now than they did eight years ago. On the bright side, they are shorter and lighter, thanks to an under-engine pre-chamber.
The all-new aluminum frame boats a 30% hike in torsional rigidity, while lateral stiffness is about the same. The frame of the Kawasaki Z1000 alone is 3-4 kilogram lighter, and supports a new Horizontal Back-Link rear suspension arrangement, positioning the shock unit and linkage above the swingarm to stop the exhaust heat cooking the shock. The rear shock features rebound and preload adjustability, while the front fork is now fully adjustable, at last.

The new instrument panel can be angled to suit rider preference, from a choice of three positions using an adjuster knob on the left side.

The colors are not confirmed but if Kawasaki Thailand follows the standard colors it comes in Spark Black / Atomic Silver, Pearl Stardust White / Candy Burnt Orange or Metallic Chestnut Brown.
