The Icon Raiden UX Motorcycle Jacket

The Icon Raiden UX is the name used for an adventure, rally, off-road – inspired collection from the US manufacturer Icon. They also have Icon Motorsports, aimed at youthful sportsbike riders, and Icon 1000, which is more retro. We’ve been trying a variety of Icon Raiden stuff recently, and it’s very impressive.

For our latest test we looked at the Icon Raiden UX waterproof jacket. Like a lot of Raiden gear, it appears deceptively simple. It’s light, thin and has an uncluttered design. But it’s brilliantly well designed and executed, showing that it’s been developed by motorcyclists who’ve put it through its paces before putting in on sale.

It’s roomy cut and made of a slightly stretchy fabric with a waterproof and breathable Hycor membrane built in. It works, I’ve taken out the classy quilted liner, because that make it too hot for Thailand, despite the best effort of the vents. It’s been waterproof so far, and very comfortable.
The quality and detailing are magnificent. There’s a removable hood that tucks away unobtrusively when you’re riding. There are neat little reflective flashes. There’s a useful variety of pockets, including a bum pouch that’s big enough to carry the liner. And it comes fitted as standard with elbow, shoulder and back armor.

Icon informed us that they even have a store in Bangkok that sell the Icon Raiden UX Jacket. Apparently the shop is called Molecule MC.Tag: Icon Jacket Motorcycle-Jacket Waterproof,Textile-Jacket Raiden UX Gear Molecule-MC Armor Safety Kit

Sadly Molecule MC does not carry this jacket or really any Icon jacket (they say they only have Icon gloves).

And do not bother contacting Taze Store (the other Bangkok dealer listed on Icon's website), they do not respond to messages on their Facebook page, the 2 phone numbers listed on their Facebook page do not work, the company website listed on their Facebook page does not work and if you make the foolish mistake of driving out to them during their alleged business hours (until 8pm they claim!) you will find them most certainly closed at 4:30 on a weekday with the staff frantically calling the owner to let the farang into the little closet they call their showroom. Through the window, you'll see hiding in the dark, no more than 10 Icon branded items for sale.

If anyone has any luck with the last remaining Icon dealer listed in Thailand (Blue Dragon Bike Shop in Phetchaburi) let me know.
