Ratthapark Wilairot Recovering at Bumrungrad Hospital

Doctors in the Intensive Care Unit of Bumrungrad Hospital, Bangkok, tending to Ratthapark Wilairot have described his latest condition as ‘encouraging’, though it isn’t anticipated that he will leave intensive care for another week.

The Thai Moto2 rider was admitted to hospital on Monday morning last week after being involved in a motorcycle road accident earlier that day, Wilairot was knocked unconscious and suffering severe bruising to his head and hands. His friend, riding the motorcycle that Wilairot was a passenger on, died.

Transferred to intensive care at Bangkok’s Bumrungrat hospital, though Wilairot suffered a clot in his head, a statement from his Thai Honda PTT Singha SAG team says it is subsiding thanks to medication and excellent medical care.
Moreover Wilairot has his left eye completely closed but fully understands what is asked and though he cannot speak because of the ventilator, he can respond by gesticulating. Dr Montri Saksuwong said Wilairot could move all his body parts.

Wilairot is expected to spend another week in the ICU until he is able to breathe unaided, where by he will begin four to six weeks of rehabilitation.

Ratthapark Wilairot, based in Spain, had been in Thailand to attend to funeral of his father Kristmas Wilairot, who died last week.
