60 Million Honda Cups, Honda's 50th Anniversary

Remember the cutesy Honda Cub? The world's highest selling motorcycle series has hit a production run of 60 million units worldwide. The legendary model also celebrates its 50th anniversary in August, as the first Honda Super Cub C100 was introduced in Japan in 1958. Honda Super Cub initially featured an innovative and high-performance 50cc four-stroke engine which was high on economy an durability against the popular two-strokes at the time.

The convenient low-floor backbone frame was a hit among daily commuters while the centrifugal clutch system, requiring no clutch operations, made it suitable for a wide array of applications. The name 'Cub' was said to be the acronym of Cheap Urban Bike because the development of this model was aimed to provide a kind of cheap urban transportation in busy cities.Since the introduction of the first generation model, the basic design and concept have remained virtually unchanged, with the current models still sporting the classic outlines.

The present Honda Cub has evolved and current line-up has models equipped with Honda's latest innovative PGM-FI technology, developed by the Thai Honda research and development department, while it's production has spanned to 15 countries around the globe. The current top model is the Honda Wave 125i which furthers the newly developed PGM-FI (electronic fuel injection) system for small motorcycles.
